Zenith Bank Nigeria - Free Zenith Bank Tips

Zenith bank Nigeria - Zenith bank has grown to become one of the top three banks in Nigeria. The bank was among the first privately owned banks to become publicly quoted companies in Nigeria.

The bank has grown since its early days under the leadership of Jim Ovia, the CEO as at the time of this writing.

What I like about the bank is its innovative products especially the card services, which offer an easy way to . . .

  • shop online
  • pay for local utility bills
  • pay for cable services from DSTV and
  • pay for products and services offered by Nigerian merchants online with Zenith Eazycard
  • The bank offers services like . . .

  • local money transfer
  • international money transfer
  • mortgage services
  • personal accounts
  • corporate accounts
  • internet banking
  • mobile banking
  • MasterCard debit and credit cards
  • Visa debit and credit cards

    . . . and a host of other services.

Perhaps one area where Zenith bank excels the most is the online card services arena. Its range of card offerings is second to none.

For example, the bank offers the Web Surfer Card, which is purely an online payment debit card. The advantages of using the Web Surfer card includes:

    1. Limitation of risks - If your card detail is compromised, you only lose the amount you have on the card since it is a debit card. And when you alert the bank as soon as you suspect your card has been compromised, the card gets blocked and your money on the card is protected.

    2. Online statement reporting - You can view the transactions on your Web Surfer card online. You can even print out your account statement.

    3. Easy top up - Loading new funds into your account is dead easy. Simply collect the Web Surfer form from the customer service officer, fill it, and pay the dollar amount to the cashier. The funds get loaded into your card within the same day

    4. Low Top Up Fee - Many banks charge from 10-25 dollars whenever you top up or add funds to your card. Zenith bank charges $5 each time you reload your card. That is about the lowest in the industry.

I have used the Web Surfer card successfully for many years and can tell you that it is first in class.

Some have referred to Zenith bank as a "big man's bank". And the reason is not far fetched. It is because of the amount required to open a new account with the bank.

For example, I once went to the Oba Akran branch of the bank to inquire about what it takes to open a new account with the bank. The customer service officer clearly stated the conditions plus the account opening amount. Savings account was 500,000 Naira and current account was 1,000,000 Naira.

I was not prepared for that at the time. So, I shifted base.

I then went to the Dopemu branch of the same bank. There I was told I needed 100,000 Naira for savings account and 500,000 Naira for current account. That sounded more reasonable to me. So, I pitched my tent with the Dopemu branch.

Is Zenith a big man's bank?

Sounds like it. It takes a big man to open an account with 500,000 Naira or even 100,000 Naira. In these days of scarce funds, many banks have engaged in open air campaign for new accounts and now offer opportunity for people to open savings accounts with as low as 1,000 Naira.

But you need to understand the positioning of the bank.

As a business, you choose the market segment you wish to operate. Zenith bank has chosen to operate in the premium sector and deals with premium clients.

Some other old generation banks target the mass market where there is high population with little funds. No, wonder their banking halls are always jam-packed with dissatisfied customers!

Zenith is the bank of the future. It is aiming beyond the skies. Even the name says it.
