The Problems of Benin City Are Common To Nigeria
Many of the problems associated with Benin City are problems common to Nigerians and virtually every state of Nigeria.
For example, the culture of running overseas in search of the golden fleece is not common to Benin City. Check out the number of Nigerians overseas, I can assure you that Benin people won't have the highest number.
About crime.
I have to admit that criminality has taken a new dimension in Benin. The youths want to make big money with minimal or no work. And this situation is compounded by the high level of unemployment.
I believe the governor will do something about this to make Benin kingdom safe again.
Having said that, the problem in general is not peculiar to benin. Majority of Nigerians have generally lost the values of honesty, integrity, and moral uprightness inherent in our culture. Corruption has eaten deep into our system.
We need to go back to our values - the values we held before the colonial era. A good name was valued at that age. People were concerned about their reputation. Today people are concerned only about money.
Our moral values have broken down. It is our responsibility to fix it.
