The sitting room refers to the living room in Nigeria real estate terminology. It is also called parlour.

The sitting room is the part of the home that is open to routine visitors or guests. Hence, it is often the first room the visitor enters as he or she enters the apartment.

Routine visitors and acquaintances are not allowed beyond the living room of a home in Nigeria.

People who can go beyond the sitting room or living room are people who are friends of the family and intimate neighbours and relatives.
