School Days Lagos Nigeria - School Day And School Work Week Tips
School days in Lagos Nigeria are usually Mondays to Friday. This incidentally is also the school work week for teachers and
the normal work week for employees of organizations.
|
A typical school day and school work week is hectic. That is to be expected because education is not easy either for
teachers or for their students.
However, when students know what to do and are taught in an atmosphere free of rancour and yelling, it can be fun.
Most schools in Lagos Nigeria start the day by 8.00am and close for regular business of teaching between 1.00pm to 2.00pm.
|
The majority of schools now offer after school coaching hours called extra lesson for interested students. The purpose
is two-fold:
1. To provide extra help for slow learners and
2. To place fast learners on fast track
The school days for students who attend extra lessons usually extend beyond 2.00pm. Most extra lessons or after school
classes last for upwards of two to three hours per day, Monday to Friday. Some schools also offer extra lessons on Saturday
morning from, say, 10.00am to 1.00pm . . . especially for students preparing for SSCE (Senior Secondary School Exmination).
Does after school lessons help?
I will say, yes.

In fact, after school lessons help two ways . . . at least from the parents' perspective.
1. It keeps kids busy for a large part of the day and away from trouble and
2. It synchronizes the child's closing hours from school with those of the parents
Here's how it works.
|
The closing hour for most companies in Lagos Nigeria is 5.00pm. School children would ordinarily close from school by 2.00pm
latest. If the parent has to do school run, he needs to leave his office by about 1.30pm to pick his child from school and
drive back to work. And then drive back home after the normal work day.
Sounds like stress and unnecessary distraction from work, especially with the traffic situation in Lagos.
The solution?
After school lessons for the kids that span from 2.00pm to 6.00pm.
This synchronizes parents closing time from work with the children's
time while also allowing room for daddy to beat after work traffic to reach the kids.
This means more school work for the kids and less time for school pranks, television, or idle behaviour. It's a win-win deal.
Granted, this hectic school days schedule can have an exhuastive impact on the kids. But there is a way round that.
As a parent, be sure to add some fun and entertainment to the family's routine during the weekends. That should ease off
any accumulated stress.
