Ovaltine Goes Ballistic - Free 22g Sachets Distributed To The Masses. Competitors Beware!

I got a pleasant surprise on Wednesday November 24 2010. A young chap carrying a carton of Ovaltine threw a 22g sachet of Ovaltine into my car as I drove through the Pen Cinema Area of Lagos Nigeria.
When I looked out the window, I saw a couple of other guys sharing sachets of Ovaltine to other cars that drove by. Even pedestrains got a share of the Ovaltine free gift.
Ovaltine has a long history in Nigeria. It's a beverage drink that has served many families all over Nigeria for decades. Unfortunately, it's market share is not as massive as those of her major competitors like Milo and Bournvita.
Nevertheless, Ovaltine is a drink you will enjoy drinking.
Now that the company is sharing a pre-determined volume of her products to the general public, it's obvious that they want the public to taste the unique experience the product gives with the hope that some of these folks will fall in love with it and jump ship.
No doubt, this promotion will cost the company a nice slice of it's volume. But the expected increase in market share is expected to make this up.
So competitors . . . Beware, Ovaltine is coming on strong!
