Nigeria People West Africa - Nigerians - The Black Diamonds of Africa

Nigeria people are called Nigerians. They are the most populous black nation of the world.

Nigeria is a part of West Africa, which is a large part of the African continent. Nigerians are blacks. They are predominantly dark in complexion with light-skinned men and women sprinkled among them like gifts from God . . . a reminder that we have brothers elsewhere in the world who have a different complexion from ours.

Nigeria people are smart, intelligent, dogged, resilient. Nigerians are large-hearted, hospitable, caring, and daring.

In the early days before the white man travelled and conquered the African continent, Nigerians lived in huts with walls made from red sand and roof made from palm fronds.

Sleeping beds were made of bamboo stakes and same were the spoons in use in the community.

The favorite past-time of Nigerians were . . .

  • Farming
  • Fishing
  • Cattle rearing and
  • Alcohol production

The Nigeria people were organized in peaceful villages where brotherly love prevailed. Sexual misconduct was minimal as the consequences of adultery was the death penalty.

Each village had its own council of elders who managed the affairs of the village. Notable men were honoured with chieftaincy titles. Each title had a peculiar name and the name reflected the reason for the title.

Children are given names that reflect events around when they were born or the peculiar situation of the parents during the child's conception.

Everything about the Nigeria society centuries back was rudimentary, simple, and straight from the heart. The people had tremendous belief in the gods of their forefathers. And this prevented them from achieving earth shaking scientific discoveries.

If something happened that they couldn't explain, they attributed it to the gods of the land. That basically prevented them from seeking for scientific answers.

The gods of the land were represented by human priests. These priests communicated to the people what the gods of the land wanted done. And since the people couldn't speak directly to their gods, they accepted the words of the priests as final. Many times, the people were manipulated by selfish priests for their personal advantage.

    Well, things have changed.

This is the 21st century and people no longer listen to or seek out the supposed gods of their forefathers. Almost two-third of the population now profess Christianity even though the actions and inactions of most people suggest they are only Christians in speech.

Nigerians are peace loving people. They have maintained reasonable calm even in the face of blatant fraud like election rigging. Potentially explosive situations have come and gone with the people absorbing the shock and moving on.

The driving force in the reasonable peace that reigns in Nigeria is due to the fact that most people believe in God. They believe that God's time is the best and that God will do something about the situation in the country soon.

If you are a tourist or visitor planning a trip to Nigeria, be rest assured that you will be well taken care of.

Nigerians are the black Gold of Africa.

Nigeria is a third world economy groping for direction . . . yearning for selfless leadership. Nonetheless, it is a lovely country with beautiful people.
