My African friend has committed fraud.

I am a citizen of the United States of America. I have been corresponding with a woman claiming to be in the Lagos, Nigeria area.
She led me to believe she is working in a missionary teaching Bible Studies to orphaned children that have HIV/AIDS. She seeemed very sincere and religious.
I know there are a lot of scams coming from this area. But I could not believe after corresponding with this woman for almost 2 years that she had plotted to steal from me.
Lucky for me she isnt very good at it, she was only able to scam me out of a few thousand dollars. Not enough to make or break anyone.
She had me believe in the end that she was scared that she may get sick from the children and wanted to leave the country. I had no reason to believe she wasnt sincere.
But as soon as she had her money she has stopped communicating with me. She claimed to have the name of Emma "Tola" Martins, she has used several emails since I have known her.
firstname.lastname@example.org, email@example.com, and firstname.lastname@example.org.
The citizens of Nigeria must be so proud to have so many scam artists among them. I have been reading so many different articles about scam operations coming from your country.
One cant go online and type the word Nigeria and not be hit with so many articles covering these crimes. Again I imagine the Nigerian people must be so proud of their accomplishment.
