Sample Scam Email Letter - Insurance Loan

On October 6 2009, I received the following scam email letter from a visitor to my site:

"Please i want to now if the Mr Roland Dan and Mr.Ehi Gabriel (manager of your insurance company) collaboration with you for loans.

I ask a loan for 100000 euros and the answer who i take from Mr Dan is first i must pay the insurance and after i take my loan.

This man ask for me to i send with Western Union the amount 480 euros for insurance the loan.

My propose is you take the amount 480 euros from loan end send me the rest amound of 99520 euros to my bank account. Only this way i accept the transaction.

Please i wait your responce"

The potential victim offered something that made sense. He asked the suppose insurance company to deduct their service charges from the insurance amount and send him the balance.

Hey, be smart. Don't allow scammers outsmart you. You risk loosing your hard earned money.

Be aware of this new insurance scam trick and don't take chances.

I am registered on a dating web site. Got friendly with an English girl, who was flawless / perfect, doing fashion modelling in Nigeria, but soon as she said a sob story, that she is in Nigeria and needs to pay hotel fees. That is when I clicked.

I had no intention to send money.

I then went along with it and investigated. I found the hotel does not exist, but the Nigerian contact number was live and was a mobile.

The way I dealt with scammer, I got a Nigerian friend to to give me tips, so this is what I wrote back. The only problem is, where do I report this:

Hi Monica

Why is your hotel asking for £. Usual acceptance is US $ in Nigeria. I have investigated hotel and it is not found on records

As you know I am strapped for cash, what about Nigerian Naira.

I know people in River State, Port harcourt.
