The advertised fish farming seminars as well as the poultry farming seminars often cost between 7,000 to 15,000 Naira per course. And the organizers promise attendees hands-on training that will enable them set up and run their own farms.

The organizers of these seminars make it look like the farming business is the next big thing for Nigerians. And that their unemployment woes will be quickly evaporated by turning to farming.

It is good news that fish farming is generating a lot of interest among young and old in Nigeria. The same goes for poultry farming. The unfortunate part is that many fraudsters seem to have hijacked the seminar market and are ripping people off.

This is not to say all farming seminars (or seminars in general) are fraudulent. Perhaps the instructors provided the right information and my friend's father did not apply the information properly. Or perhaps the instructors were not experienced farmers themselves and therefore only taught what they read from books.

Whatever the case, something went wrong either with the information provided or with the student's ability to implement the information.

Bottom line
