Concessioning of Lagos Ibadan Expressway
The Federal government of Nigeria recently announced plans to concession the Lagos Ibadan expressway. The concessioning will cover a period of 25yrs with the contractor spending about 88 billion Naira during the period.
The concessioning is supposed to create jobs and give the Lagos Ibadan expressway a facelift and the attention it deserves. The ministry of works is mandated to supervise the contractor.
The announcement has been greeted with mixed feelings. For some it is a welcome relief - a sign that the Lagos Ibadan expressway that is gradually getting congested will get a new lease of life.
Others cry foul because they suspect the concessioning program will result in road users paying toll along the expressway.
